Glendyrr Fick, Development Manager at the Knysna Tourism Centre, expresses her views concerning the impact of the World Cup on the community around the city.
Mrs Fick has been working with the Knysna community for ten years, she knows the people and is well trusted by them, as well as the municipality which has faith in her.
Glendyrr’s involvement with the community
As with any project, Mrs Fick came across some difficulties with the development program. Those were easily overcome with her experience and the strong support of the mayor of Knysna, Ms. Eleanore Bouw-Spies.
Glendyrr’s difficulties throughout the programme
Because Knysna was the host town of the Danish and the French, they got helped in fixing up some sports grounds and the two teams met with some of the local youngsters.
Support to help the community programme
Glendyrr Fick is very proud to be hosting the first African soccer World Cup, and she caught the “contagious fever” which brought the people together.
